Despite knowing that he does everything for the greater good of the country, do you REALLY think people would like him for all this? Do you think YOU would?

If I am presented with a choice of 1)everyone and everything dies and 2) by following a certain leader there is a chance for survival of me and others, then the choice to me would be obvious. I would be great-full for the chance, and both respect and like the leader for at least giving me that. Do you really think that you wouldn't?

Characters don't operate from our 20/20 hindsight we have when we're reading these books. They operate from within in the world. Rand could have the best PR in the world, and people would still fear him, resent the prophecy he carries on his back, and wish him ill, in hope that by removing the Dragon Reborn, they can prevent prophecy. Dim sighted, but understandable.

I think Thom in Tear shows otherwise. A few words here, a little innuendo there seemed to influence those around him.
All good things come to those who wait.

You really don't understand? Or it just upsets you since he's a "good guy"? - 11/10/2010 12:50:55 PM 696 Views
The people of Randland need him - 11/10/2010 01:26:48 PM 608 Views
He's not hated. He is feared because of the inevitable destruction salvation will bring. - 11/10/2010 02:18:30 PM 603 Views
particularly since most of them are totally powerless. - 11/10/2010 03:17:49 PM 504 Views
It makes sense to fear the times and the DO; The Dragon Reborn less so - 11/10/2010 03:18:56 PM 504 Views
their previous "rescue" broke the world anyways. - 11/10/2010 03:24:09 PM 500 Views
The previous "rescue" saved the world but at great cost - 11/10/2010 03:39:18 PM 549 Views
And where do you see people (other than dark friends and politicals) denying that? - 11/10/2010 03:49:27 PM 509 Views
If the people don't know what is at stake, then he needs to tell them - 11/10/2010 04:49:58 PM 539 Views
why will the people believe a crazy man over everyone else they know? - 11/10/2010 05:08:14 PM 487 Views
yes, and it's still a reason to FEAR the dragon reborn. - 11/10/2010 03:56:32 PM 515 Views
That always bugged me. Some males killed entire CITIES - 11/10/2010 05:44:50 PM 570 Views
but he wouldn't have done it without being tainted... - 11/10/2010 05:49:46 PM 538 Views
To err is human. To blame it on someone else is even MORE human. *NM* - 11/10/2010 05:53:43 PM 252 Views

it would be the most effective. That does not mean it's practically effective. - 11/10/2010 08:59:59 PM 495 Views

I wouldn't think that they would necessarily proclaim themselves. - 11/10/2010 10:15:27 PM 505 Views
