using gateways and gleemen would probably be better for Rand, as the commoners would not trust the asha'man or the AS.

Regardless, it is overall impractical and pointless. Rand does NOT need everyone behind him to win the last battle. And what're they going to do come last battle? Support the DO? Worse comes to worse, you'll have a bunch of people who are useless in battle anyways staying out of it.
