We see it in the WT all the time: the trainees are told it cannot be done, so they'll never discover that it CAN be done. Perhaps this happened in the Age of Legends to a lesser extent.


Unlikely. If anything, innovation and research seems to have been something that was encouraged in the AoL. Sadly, this attitude was what got them into trouble in the first place, since it allowed them to discover the weakness in the pattern and bore through it straight into the DO's prison.

The whole "it cannot be done" attitude is primarily a White Tower flaw and it would not surprise me if Ishamael through the Black Ajah has been subtly reinforcing this flaw to keep the WT weak and stagnant.
