It wasn't a surprise for Gawyn since he knew Elayne loved Rand since way back in LoC (Min told him) and he had spent a few days before this conversation in Caemlyn so Elayne knew she was pregnant, this was just the confirmation. He probably waited a few days to get over the initial shock and not lose his head when he confronted her about that issue.
