I disagree that her survival was a deus ex machina, however. It was actually surprisingly credible, and this coming from someone who had strongly argued that she was dead.
I'm willing to let the new weave go (although even then... when else had Graendal practiced this?)-- I'm fine with new abilities being introduced. Besides, we know rats and ravens can report to Ishamael. It also makes a great deal of sense for Graendal to Compel the dove given her skill with Compulsion.
What I hated was that it was not foreshadowed in shape or form. The presence of this dove was way too convenient.
Regarding the actual event - I really enjoyed Distinctions. I thought the scene was excellently written, and I didn't have any problems with it. My main beef lies with the scene in tGS.
What was the purpose of Graendal?!
