Hah, I remember that. He was all "Everyone killed themselves! It's SAD!"

Of course, we find out about it like... fifth-hand. Not only is it
1)A race of people we've never seen, and
2)mentioned offhandedly maybe... once?
3)In a land we've never been to, nor has anything important happened there. And if that's not bad enough,
4)We don't even see it! We hear about it from a messenger to a bunch of Sea Folk ambassadors everyone hates.
If RJ had written a short vignette actually showing the people congregating, deciding to suicide, taking the poison, realizing there wasn't enough painless poison for everyone, having the adults take the painful poison, and really play up the whole "the world is about to end" thing, that would have been a good scene.
So, yeah. Sorry, RJ, still don't care.

I amuse myself.
So...what was this "heartbreaking scene" with Olver in ToM?

There's really absolutely no point to his character if he isn't Gaidal Cain.

He's EveryCairhienin; prob'ly RJ didn't call him that 'cos it hurts the eye and mouth too much.

I can deal with the "spoiled" part (more or less) but it sure doesn't make him sympathetic. *NM*
