The stereotypical-ness of it does not bother me for the large part because I accept it as stereotypical. I am also rarely bored for more than a chapter or two at a time, and only because RJ sometimes has a dreadfully slow pace. However when I am finished with a given book and/or plot line, I can play it over in my head at a much faster rate so the boredom does not last very long.
The main reason I had stopped being so passionate about this series was because of the pace combined with my very heavy workload in classes. The mental exhaustion made the pace harder to compensate for. However now that the pace is picking up, it is easy to read them once again and indulge in running scenes through my mind.

We haven't had a Rand POV, so I don't think you can say for certain that it's random.
