One more theory deals with the 2 out of every 3 Clan Chiefs that did not come out of Rhuidean. It is assumed that they died there. Perhaps, Avi's third trip (which had been forbidden) released those that the glass columns had taken. Perhaps there are generations of clan chief hopefuls who went mad and were trapped, now released on the world? Just a speculation. As the clan chiefs who did emerge were visibly changed by the dragon tattoos, maybe there is a visible change to the ones who did not come out as well?
