I must admit, I was disappointed in the 'descent' of Elaida into a paranoid, frothing madwoman. The Tower-split plotline would have been much less black-and-white if she'd been allowed to stay as the character we saw when she was newly raised - ferocious and stubborn, but not wholly unreasonable, and not incompetent. But a mixture Alviarin's manipulation and, I think, the Fain evil!whammy, sent her into something of a death spiral. Getting rid of her started to seem more like putting down a rabid dog - the best thing for everyone, including the dog.
Do you suppose, if she'd been raised at a more 'normal' time in Tower history, she would have been a good Amrylin? Or would her character flaws have caught up with her anyway?

I think that Fain's evil only magnified Elaida's existing characteristics which tended towards being power hungary and controlling. Alviarin also used these same weaknesses to manipulate Elaida.
I do not think that she would be a good Amrylin even in a "normal time" as she is too rigid in her opinions and interpretes events as she wishes them to be not as they really are.

Those traits prevent her from being a good leader. Maybe she'd become a good Sister in time.
