Aren't the archways closely related to Tel'aran'rhiod? If Egwene believed she would have the ageless look, she would have appeared to have it. Likewise, if Nynaeve believed she could redirect saidin, she would have been able to as easily as Perrin can deflect balefire there. At that point she didn't know enough about the Power to know that she couldn't do it, so she did.
