A few more thoughts after a re-read of the prologue Etzel Send a noteboard - 21/09/2009 05:20:17 PM
I think it was interesting that it was yet again explicitly pointed out that the Seanchan despise being Healed by a channeler. In my view this will be the linked to how Alivia will help Rand to "die". I believe that some battle damane know a certain "stasis weave" or "human-Keeping weave" for life-threatening wounds, that basically puts the wounded person in a fixed state, so that the wounds won't get worse till they get medical aid. It might be somewhat similar to the weave Sammael uses to freeze Mili Skane in ACoS or e.g. Elayne's Keeping around the lily Rand gave her in WH. Alivia will use this weave on Rand and so he will appear to be dead to the world. I think that in those serious cases the Seanchan would stomach such a stasis weave/Keeping, even if it touches the body, because such a stasis weave at least wouldn't have a real internal effect on the body like Healing.

We also learn that the sul'dam and damane Semirhage brought with her to capure Rand apparently weren't DF and that they truly didn't know that they would face the Dragon Reborn. Semirhage also didn't have any backup. This shows that Semirhage's plan was indeed very idiotic. It seems unlikely to me that Semirhage could have sent the Trolloc army in KoD, which was pretty easily annihilated and still believe that she could capture Rand with only a few rather unprepared sul'dam and damane. Besides that, Moridin's talk about Sammael ordering the Trolloc army makes no sense if Semirhage (and then probably Demandred & Mesaana) knew that actually Moridin sent them to weaken Rand. And since Moridin can't risk that anything harms Rand, it also makes no sense that he would dare to attack him that way. Therefore I still tend to think that most likely Graendal sent the Trolloc army in KoD in a Sammael-disguise, even if she doesn't mention it in her PoV in TGS, prologue.

I'm not yet sure about who sent the Trollocs to attack Tylee and her army. That Semirhage brought them there before (with Moridin's permission) seems most likely of course, but if Semirhage had these Shadowspawn available, I don't see why she didn't use them during her meeting.

In any case, especially the signs of the DO's influence, the Shadowspawn troops in Seanchan territory, the revelation that Anath was a Forsaken and of course the influence of all the ta'veren (and maybe the sword "Justice".. ) will soon guarantee that Rand will get his alliance with the Seanchan, especially if Rand supports Ituralde against the Seanchan, as seems likely.

Faile was pretty badass, when she killed Masema & his followers. It also shows again like e.g. in several cases in KoD, that RJ can quickly solve plotlines by having someone be killed, defeated or captured (besides Masema, e.g. Aram, the Shaido, Galina, Suroth, Valda). IMO, Fain will suffer a similar fate and quickly die, when the Darkhound pack and/or Slayer catch him.
