No explanation for why they punish is given ... Could be a thousand reasons unrelated to the nature of the Pattern conflicting with the DO. For all we know these punishments are only defined as "things that touch the Shadow" because of the perspective of the people writing it down. Maybe a dark friend would say they punish questions that touch on the Last Battle or the Dragon etc ... No reason to believe the 'Finn are n any way creatures of the Light as this line of thought implies.
