It would entirely jar the mood and the reader's expectations (in a bad way). RJ would be completely reversing the general direction his book series has taken in regards to who dies, wins and lives. That's not a good idea at all and it's not fair to one's readers. I'm not saying no one will die, hell, even a major character may die...but for it to be one of the central characters would be implausible given how RJ has written up until this point.
