I'm very suspicious of the whole "Callandor" theory.... DomA Send a noteboard - 06/03/2012 03:27:05 AM
Jordan/BS introduced that damn early in AMOL, to begin with. If the final solution is Callandor, why reveal this so soon, when we already know it must be wielded by Rand and two women, if it's to be the final key to events taking place at the end of the book? The prophecy is way too transparent to be given us this early before the Pit of Doom events. Something's fishy. It feels like revealing at the beginning of TDR that the Aiel are the people of the Dragon.

Then, there's the fact Rand all but invalidated the whole thing in TGS. LTT is fully aware that the fatal flaw in his plan was that sealing the Bore with the OP required the channelers's weaves to come in direct contact with Shai'tan/the TP, and it's how saidin got tainted. Doing it with Callandor wouldn't change that. "Sealing the bore" is a dead end, Rand needs to find another solution to force it out of the Pattern, and one that doesn't require touching Shai'tan with the OP either, perhaps not channelling at all, as I doubt Rand intends to channel again the OP anywhere in the Pit of Doom. Unless some major revelation is coming about Callandor (but it would be cheesy, as a flawed san'angreal would have accidental capabilities LTT himself doesn't even know about... when that san'angreal was very likely meant for his use in the WOS, possibly built to be an alternative to using a mix gender circle to seal the Bore... but that path got blocked by the fact the buffer was faulty and to be used it required two women, and because of the Concord... Back to square one....) then the two women merely replaced the faulty buffer that prevent the male user from overdrawing.

I tend to believe the whole thing is a red herring meant to distract us from the final significance of the "colour swirls" of the three ta'veren and from Rand's shiny new sword that's confirmed by Brandon to be Artur Hawkwing's Justice. I think that, not Callandor, is the sword of the prophecy, and that three becoming one refers to Rand, Perrin and Mat, not to Rand forming a three-way circle with Callandor.

RJ/BS have even started to prepare the ground slyly. At some point in TGS we get clues. Rand mentions that not all memories about Justice are his own (from Falme), that LTT knows things about the sword that he's hiding from Rand. Rand should have these memories now, when he pays attention to Justice again. Much earlier in TGS, BS/RJ also made it a point that Rand isn't revealing to anyone, not even Min, that this sword is Justice. And there was this curious comment by Rand that it felt as if the sword had been made for him. It sounds likely that before being Justice, the sword may have been LTT's own in the War of Shadow, and technically, it's a ter'angreal.

I think Min will solve it all only at the last minute thanks to reference to Justice as the Sword of the Light somewhere in Fel's books, legends surrounding it or stuff like that - that perhaps they've all misunderstood the prophecy to be referring to Callandor, and Rand will connect the dots. I think Cadsuane's efforts with scholars (likely sisters) will draw a blank, and this news will come at a very bad/desperate moment, when Rand needs to move badly but still hasn't found the solution for the Bore and so he is stuck.
