I ask this because when I do an occasional peek-in at this board, most of what I see seems to be arguments regarding fantasy physics than anything approaching a discussion of what the series as a whole would "mean" in regards to thematic issues.

What's to be taken from this series? That an author spent years before his death introducing minutiae for obsessive fans to debate, or is there something else to it?

It'd be interesting to see discussion of potential themes and their possible resolutions here rather than the fantasy physics version of dick size and how one uses it in...umm...opening gateways ;)

I ask you does it matter? It's not like RJ put together some masterwork of fiction on par with one the greats. Was it epic? Sure. Was it fun? Absolutely. Did it introduce fans and other authors to a whole new way to look at the fantasy genre? Probably. But did it mean anything? To me not really, sure RJ address some topics that are relevant to any era, but to me it was mostly just some good entertainment and an excuse to discuss how much more potent my fantasy physics is than yours :P


So you're more about it just being more "mindless" in nature, or would that belie your comment regarding entertainment?

BTW I LOVE that comment and will totally steal it or adapt it!
