Both spellings are common, but far be it from me to dispute with any authority who can correct Faulkners knowledge of the South.

So I wouldn't rush so quickly to quote authors who are known to use variants to place emphasis on character speech. Just as "colour" would be out of place in Southern vernacular, "ya'll" is not the accepted spelling of the contraction for most of the SAE dialect region. But enough on this.
