Now was it just me, or did she imply several Aes Sedai over the years have tried to infiltrate the Black Ajah on the side of the good? The extreme nature of the Oaths made them back down from truly committing; or, instead, the alternative of death was the option they took (if they had gotten themselves too deep to back out) to avoid serving the Dark One. Basically, Verin had the balls to continue on and sacrifice herself while others backed down or died for it.

I don't think she was ever truly a Darkfriend. She was a scholar interested in studying the Black Ajah and the Dark One as closely as she could, and always, in the back of her mind at least, was on the side of the Light.
