As I recall, there were several letters when Verin gave hers to Mat. Do you think that there were enough letters that it took her ten days to deliver them? I only wonder this, because why ten days exactly?
That she wanted him to wait 10 days so that she could come back and take the letter from him. She tells Egwene that she set her plans in motion if she doesn't return. I would guess that she took a couple of days to give out her other letters and then spent a day or two trying to get to the Oath Rod, then she went to Egwene, which would have left her a few days to get back to Mat had she lived.
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
