I don't agree - I think that was Rand trying to force the Pattern to do what he wanted by abusing his t'a'veren effect. This is what he thinks, as well - that is why he threatened Cadsuane with whether he could make the Pattern make her heart stop beating. Remember what Siuan, Logain and Elaida had said when they first met him? He was so strongly t'a'veren that he glowed like the sun. It seems that his attempt to abuse his t'a'veren powers makes this glow appear to everyone else as a halo of darkness surrounding him.
