But we don't even have an accurate channeling sample to go on. We need a sample of thousands of channelers from the population, which we don't have. The fact that there are three strong women like Elayne who became friends tells me that their strength is unheard of in the Tower, but probably not as extremely rare as they make out. If they tested hundreds of women, they're probably find one or two more of their calibre.
But look at the thousands of Novices the Rebels picked up. One woman is stronger than Egwene, and one woman comes close. That's it.
Look at the Aiel too. Someryn, Tamela, Viendre... only three women stronger than Aviendha, and he way Avi's strength is spoken of, it is indeed exceedingly rare to find it among the Aiel.
And this is a culture where channelers mate and give birth to loads of kids, where even non-sparkers are reportedly found and trained. There are around 6000 WO. That's a big enough sample.
I think they are a level below the Forsaken, and that level is pronounced. There's no real evidence that they can compete, even remotely, on that level, and a lot against it. Moiraine thinks that Aviendha and Egwene linked could maybe fight a Forsaken, and Egwene thinks that linked with Romanda and Lelaine she wouldn't match one of the Forsaken. It's a telling sign.
a) Egwene and Avi were not at full strength when Moiraine thought they could tackle a Forsaken.
b) Egwene was talking about herself, Romanda and Lelaine being unable to stop the guy who came to rescue Moggy as well as Moggy herself.
Obviously, these three linked can stop a Forsaken. Verin, Kumira and Shalon did it, though one of them lost their life. Egwene is much more skilled than Verin, and Romanda and Lelaine are much stronger than Kumira (only stronger than Daigian) and Shalon (stronger than Verin, but that's it).
Is Nynaeve of "very rare" strength?

IMO, it's self evident that the female list only contains named characters

I find it unlikely that a super strong channeler would end up being unimportant to the plot *NM*

So, in terms of Nynaeve's power, do you think she is VERY rare? *NM*

Yes. She is so rare that she is mythic. A foiled Nynaeve can prolly fetch $100.

Don't forget Therava. She's stronger than any woman in the tower according to Galina.

Fionwe1987 is right. We do have a large enough sample. And the linking examples are good. *NM*
