I thought that was pretty much the sole province of Ishamael? Verin outright admitted that she didn't, and she's far less clueless than the great majority of Aes Sedai, including the Black Ajah.

I'm not sure what you refer to as 'the price involved' either.

Ishamael perhaps understands the Dark One best, and his true intent.

Yet show me one reader of WoT who doesn't think that the Dark One is evil. If you see that Shadowspawn fill you with terror and lust for blood, and that murder and general immorality is encouraged by the Shadow, it doesn't take much to work out that the Shadow is evil. I have strong doubts that any Aes Sedai joined the Shadow thinking they were joining something benign or good.

The price is becoming a murderer and evil. Maybe some Aes Sedai did only want immortality but the DO has never been sutble about what his Chosen must be.

What sort of price is that? People do evil things and commit murder for shockingly small amounts of money, even without the promise of immortality! I don't know if you are completely asleep or something, but evil is the default state of mankind! I honestly would not have expected such a willfully blind and pollyanna-esque attitude from you! People did such things when a majority of them believed such actions could result in eternal damnation in our world. In this world? Where there are no cosmic consequences? Or rewards for being good? Why SHOULD anyone have second thoughts about serving the Dark One?

The Aes Sedai in the AOL were almost a religion - they were the Servants who served the Light, even before the Dark One was freed. They channeled the energy of the Creator to help others, and help society.

It's like suggesting that half of the Vatican would ally with the Devil if he walked the Earth because he promised power and immortality. What kind of logic is that? Even if you believe it to be a huge temptation to Aes Sedai of the Age, it then doesn't explain why channelers like Lews Therin and his Companions were NOT interested in it.

Besides, there's a difference between being a cheater or thief, and being a mass murderer and total hedonist. Half of people are not the latter, no matter where you're from.

I see no reason to believe Kari was a Darkfriend. Ishamael is a liar, and that's that. - 04/12/2009 01:19:00 AM 509 Views
