And it wasn't just channelers. Imagine half the people you know. Do you think they'd give up all their morals and values for power and immortality, and be willing to do massive evil to get it? It makes me uncomfortable to think that 1 in 5 people would do it, never mind one is two.

I think that if your mind doesn't really understand what evil can mean, it's easier to fall for it. It's also easier for recruiters to confuse the issue, since there would have been a general naivety and lack of paranoia about the whole thing. So I'm not surprised that RJ set the numbers higher. It's all well and good to say you wouldn't give up your morals, but when you don't have a certain counterpoint to stand against them, you can't really know what you're giving up. Their collective sense of morality was probably woefully underdeveloped and shallow.
