We do things with calculus that would drive a math major up the walls (like the way we set limits and don't replace variable in integrals).

As an electrical Engineer I'm pretty used to saying "bell curve" to any number of curves that have one "hump" and git into a number of natural phenomena. Noise, electron distribution, etc.

It's been a while since I left school, but I might even be able to dig it up from a old school book.
