I don't think LTT's response was coherent enough for Rand to really know, and I don't think he'd ever heard of the TP. That being said, I think Rand would have done anything to get out of that collar at that moment, and I think even if he had had full knowledge of tapping into the DO's strength, he would have done it. "Take what you want, and pay for it." 
Lews Therin mentioned something like this "using that so called True Power --" in KoD (I think it was KoD). He's thinking about the man who saved Rand in Shadar Logoth, and the fact that he had to have been using the True Power. Seems clear-ish that Rand would have learned of the TP from Lews in one of their discussions. Whether or not he was coherent enough, with the a'dam on him and Min getting strangled, to figure out he was tapping the Dark One, who knows.
