Pardon me if this has been stated already, but I think of it more like they are just aging faster while under the Oath Rod's influence.
For example - Let's say there are two woman who unbound might live until 700...
One takes the Oaths when she's 20 and she passes away around 350.
The other takes the Oaths at 300 and she lives another 200 years (half of her remaining lifespan) until she's 500.
In this case, the Oath Rod would never kill anyone on the spot. I can't imagine Egwene would champion having all the older novices join the tower and become Aes Sedai if the Oath Rod would kill them.
