Of course I realize that if the quote you mention is one of those instances, that makes my theory even weaker. To be truthful, I doubt that it will ever be proved or disproved.


My feeling on that is ... if there is no direct evidence that Avi's Gateways open into the past or future by the end of the story (i.e. it's not used as a plot device in the last 2 books), then the theory is essentially disproven. RJ wouldn't have deliberately (but obliquely) introduced the idea in FoH & PoD, and then not actually use is in a straightforward manner later, IMO. So if it's not used in a straightforward manner later, then I'll just assume the FoH scene was an unacknowledged error, and the PoD scene was just sloppy/misleading writing.

Unfortunately my crystal ball is in severe need of re-calibration.
