You may be right, but the Snakes at least left him preoccupied with his destiny and convinced that it must come true. Would have looked at Tuon twice had he not known about the prophecy? I honestly don't think so.
Oh I completely agree with you on that, which is what I meant with the self-fulfilling prophecy line. It's a tactic that has been around nearly as long as literature has and is perhaps most famously seen in Oedipus Rex. He hears a prophecy and decides to avoid it, so he radically alters the course of his life with the end result being that he causes the prophecy to come true. Mat has a fairly similar experience.

The counter-argument is that because it was destiny, or fate, it would have happened anyway without the interference of the Oracle/Snake people. My counter-counter-argument is that counter-history is dumb, because there is no way to ever possibly know.
