If it showed a little picture of Moody and the name Barty then he would see the discrepancy. When I looked back through Chapter 10 it specifically says "tiny ink dots moving around inside it" on page 193. But on the next page it does describe an ink figure with it's wand. That is weird. Maybe it only showed a figure for Harry because of his location? That would be pretty complicated for a map but you never know.
