For Goodkind, it's a bit different. Most people who 'hate' his books, really just dislike the man, his ego, and his rather overblown opinion of the value of his own books.
The books are bad enough, at least later on, to hate them on their own merits. His attitude and the other stuff isn't helping, but I haven't put much weight to those things. After all, I could still read simmons or card...
