Have you read any Dickens?

YES!

What have you read?

I have read A Tale of Two Cities, Bleak House, Great Expectations and A Christmas Carol. I also have David Copperfield, The Old Curiosity Shop and Oliver Twist but haven't gotten around to reading them just yet.

Have you heard of any (other) Dickens novels?

I've heard of all of them, though asking me to recite them would invariably lead me to forget one or two. Off the top of my head I can think of Nicholas Nickleby (or however that's spelled), Little Dorrit, Our Mutual Friend, Edwin Drood, The Pickwick Papers...they all have weird names.

Why have you not read them?

We make choices in what we read, and in what order.

What is your perception of Dickens?

Uneven as an author - some stuff is good and some is not as good. A bit stilted in the prose department. I think part of it is that I just don't like these installation-novels from the Nineteenth Century.

Have you seen any film/series versions of Dickens' novels?

I saw "Great Expectations" with Gwyneth Paltrow (she was good there, but I think I could marry Margot Tenenbaum...but I digress). I seem to remember watching the first half of Oliver! but not the second half, and of course who hasn't seen at least one version of A Christmas Carol?

Damn I wish I could remember it. It's a word that no one uses and when I saw it I thought it was a misprint of "prevaricate" because it was obviously along the same lines in meaning, but it was like perstication or pervastication or something like that.
