Pick one word that you connect with Dickens. What is it?
Damn I wish I could remember it. It's a word that no one uses and when I saw it I thought it was a misprint of "prevaricate" because it was obviously along the same lines in meaning, but it was like perstication or pervastication or something like that.

This one. Really. It's bothering me. A lot. I looked through the damn book and can't find it. I don't remember what it is. This is my native language and so it's bothering me a WHOLE HELL OF A LOT.


Perhaps "perstreperous", which means noisy?
Or "pervestigate", which means to investigate something quite closely?
Or "pervicacious", which refers to someone stubborn?

None of those look that much like "prevaricate" or "pervastication", though; but it is the closest a quick look at the OED could do.
