1.  People feel bad for Theon?  THEON?  Really?

Yes really, what did Theon do wrong?  He betrayed the family who hold him as a hostage and separated him from his family for 10 years.  Just because this is normal in the middle ages and Theon loved the Starks, doesn't mean he wasn't mentally screwed up via the experience.  So I can completely understand him betraying the Starks.

Now the sh!t Theon experience as Reek is abhorrent torture, it shows how wrong torture is for it destroys a person's humanity and personhood.  I wouldn't even wish this on people such as al-qaeda, just give them a clean death.  Now it is torture, there is no ifs and buts, but some people see torture as a feature not a bug.


What did Theon do wrong? I'm sorry, are we reading the same books? :P

Yes, what Ramsay does to him is horrendous. But if he hadn't been a) cruel and b) stupid, he wouldn't have been there for Bolton to capture. 

2.  Was Dany miscarrying at the end there with all the blood?  Or was this a more positive sign of some sort?  I really don't know yet how literally to take the maegi's words to her and after this book think it could be more prophecy than doom.  

It is a matter of interpretation and debate whether Dany is miscarrying, there is some interpretations of the Maegi's prophecies, where what the Maegi was saying in jest is actually coming to happen.


Hmmmmm.

3.  I assumed Brienne's reappearance meant she had agreed to ZombieCat's terms and was luring Jaime back to ZombieCat to face her wrath.  But I gather there are those who think Brienne did die and was brought back?  I am disappointed not to have gotten more of that storyline (though I did like the Jaime progression in this book, and liked how neatly he managed to do his duty to his family/king without breaking his oath to not take up arms against the Starks or Tullys).  I will be interested to see what happens with that.

I want to know what happens to Brienne and Jamie as well

4.  Do you think Stannis is dead?  I'm going with no, since it seems like when we find out about 'offscreen' deaths like that they tend not to have happened.  Does Ramsay actually have Mance?  It seems horrible to me that we'd have gone through the Mance-isn't-really-dead switcheroo only to have that happen, and it is possible that one or more of his girls was captured and Ramsay knows he was there that way.  I'm really leaning towards taking that letter to Jon as a bunch of angry rambling.

This is speculation, but most people seem to be saying that Stannis is not dead and Ramsay is bluffing, though it is obvious that he has Mance as well as the six spearwives.


Is it? If he's lying about parts couldn't he be lying about that part too?

5.  Speaking of Jon.  Gah.  GAH.  I can't decide if I want him to be really most sincerely dead or not.  Obviously prevailing opinion is that he's not.  And yet.  How much fun would that be?

I agree, it would be fun if he does not come back at all, that will show them :P
