The thing is we do not know how long you can be a wight, and since the wall is 8000 years old, it could have been any NW brother. From a lowly cook to some former commander.

I am not saying it can or can't be Benjen, just saying it may be someone we do not expect. Or it may never come up again for it is possible that Coldhands is finished with the plot now that Bran is learning from the Greenseer.

There are not many eligible candidates of the characters we know, and it is unlikely that Martin would create a whole new character given his habit of making everything connected. Even the Three Eyed Crow turned out to be a previously developed character.
