... but can one be racist when they don't have the full force of a social system behind prejudicial thoughts?
Up until now, I would have thought that you would demand that people maintain proper definitions. Do you disagree that racism is basically the belief that one race is superior to another? Obviously, this can grow into the belief that one race deserves to rule another, but "racism" starts with the belief, not only the enforcement.
And as I said to Rebekah yesterday, there are many levels of power other than being in the majority for something one can't control. Any person, including that author, can exhibit racism simply by making any one other person feel like crap ONLY because of visual cues. In fact, that girl would need to do some fast talking to convince me that she would care if all white people suddenly died off. How is that not racism? Only because it's against those in "power?" Bull.Shit. Getting people to broaden their minds is one thing; being an outright bigot is another.
edit for clarification.

I don't find the tone blunt; I find it leading, patronizing and often wrong or inferring too much.

Agreed - reading it, I struggled to find any redeeming qualities

Agreed, in general. The tremendous bad faith and sophistry turn me off, though.

Mostly agreed with the article, but thought she undermined herself with her own racism.
