In that case, Spanish has reduced the sounds that likely existed in Latin to a minimum, as there is really no way to pronounce an open "e" (French bec or Italian bene), for example.

I assumed that you were talking about the level of deviation from the source language (Latin).


Oh no, in that case, wouldn't Sardinian have to be considered for its conservatism? Italian certainly is more conservative than the Iberian languages and much more so than French in that regard.
