Re: I try not to read more than a couple books at a time

More than that and it just gets confusing, I think. Right now I'm reading a book called "The Lost World of Genesis One", which is an examination of the book of Genesis and why it can't be read as a science textbook like some folks like to. Very good book. After that is "Slouching Towards Bethlehem", a collection of essays by Joan Didion.
That first one sounds intriguing. Does it have a religious outlook, or is it academic?
It is somewhat religious, but the author does spend some good time explaining why more religiously narrow interpretations (such as the six-day view, among others) are not appropriate ways to interpret the Genesis text, and why his view is not incompatible with modern science. He also compares the Genesis text to other contemporary creation texts, such as those from Babylon and Egypt. If you're a Christian already, and are as tired of the creation/evolution debate as I am, I would definitely recommend it.
"The rent we pay for the little space we occupy on earth is the service we render to others."
Are you a "monogamous" reader, as it were?

For the most part. Not always, but then it usually ends up with me divorcing the first book. *NM*
