but I haven't actually read 100 Years of Solitude (mostly because I want to read it in Spanish, and I've been trying to improve my Spanish), which does reputedly have a number of aspects that make it tricky, and less enjoyable for some. If you haven't read any Marquez yet, a book like Love in Times of Cholera is perhaps better to start with, far less controversial (but I guess not as much of a classic for precisely that reason).
