After all, if there is any religious ranting going on here, it seems that it eventually will become a debate between us.
I do have issues with ego, but my preaching is actually an area where I am not in too much trouble in that department. Nothing makes a preacher more humble than giving what he was sure was a brilliant sermon and then standing in the handshaking line hearing it described as "nice" fifty times.
Makes me want to throw fire and brimstone at them, just to break the ennui.

True, considering that we do stand at opposite sides of the Christian Spectrum....
*laughs* I have several friends who are pastors (we were all in school together), and I've heard that same thing from them as well. "It was nice"....great. However a bit of advise for you to take as you will....sometimes you have to give the congregation a taste of something unexpected. Catch them off guard and wake them out of their lazy mentality. A little ranting & raving...a sharp clap right into the microphone...something to catch their attention. Sure, the fire & brimstone message may be not well received, but one of the biggest attributes that it has going for it is passion.

The word used for "sin" in the New Testament is ἁμαρτία, which means "to miss the mark."
