That I will no doubt take everything in the Bible with a grain of salt? Even assuming that what it says is representative of what Jesus said, the fact that so many sects have disagreeing interpretations doesn't really give it many votes for "clarity of intent" and the like.
How many people will read the bible and it says Red...but because of their own agenda, they say blue. So here's something else to consider....if you're going to take the Bible with a grain of salt...why believe at all? Why care about Jesus, God, Christianity, or any of it? After all, the Bible is the only authentic source of said information. If you're not going to believe what it says....why bother at all. Just pull a scientology, and make your own gig up (use your own figures/characters please).
But back to your first point, Dannymac and I differ on a great many things, but you may be suprised to note that we do agree on the fundamentals. There are differences in theology here and there, but at the core, we have very similar beliefs.
