I don't know how you draw that distinction or what criteria you place on it though. And arguably, there are plenty of people in major mainstream religions for whom it is a religion of convenience and not something they follow out of belief in it 
I agree - there is no easy way to work out how to distinguish, I was thinking of people claiming belief in an existing religion for the same reasons as being part of it and even harder to deal with. Luckily I just get to mouth off about it on the internet and not do anything about it in practice

No because if she doesn't have to wear it then she (or her parents?) are making a choice to and so she can follow the school dress code with out going against her religion.
LOL, I think I would too. Along with those religions where parents keep minor children from receiving proper medical treatment.
Yes, even more so on that one. Parents who would let a 5 year old die because they don't believe their religion allows the life saving treatment do really make me angry at them.
