I'm sure you're right, but it shouldn't be, because the formative influence was/is huge.

The effects resonate to this day, on both sides of the political spectrum. There's even a poli sci theory that America goes through Great Awakening CYCLES. If you ever wondered wtf I was talking about when I said that Christianity has traditionally been a LIBERAL influence in the US, see the link. Note that Wikipedia says there's debate about whether a fourth Great Awakening occurred, but I'd argue there was one, beginning with MLK and later subverted by ravening wolves. In fact, I was just reading yesterday that the founder of the seminary that produced most of the Moral Majority leaders was in the pulpit passionately preaching in the '50s. Also, as many times as I've mentioned the link between the answer to the last question and his modern namesake I'd have beaten you if you got it wrong.
EDIT: Oh, and I haven't forgotten you and rt, but that's turned into another of those threads where I can't just dash off a response in five seconds. All your fault, of course.

I think in history classes outside the US the topic is omitted altogether. *NM*

Well, in university level American history courses, I'm sure it's mentioned.

I think when a country becomes a world power you need to cover more of its past.

Depends on how much that past mingles with yours.

Seems more like it depends on how the present mingles.
