Hey, guys! Isaac Send a noteboard - 16/03/2011 10:55:07 PM
Since I see my name's in just about all your posts back and forth, let me clarify, the EESC's comments and Rush's are totally unrelated, IIRC the EESC thing took place well after. I presented the EESC statement because it stuck in my head as a recent and partially related example of how context is a big factor and that that that particularly statement - which I still think was pretty inappropriate - reads a good deal different - IMO - in its entirety then in the way it is going around, but when it is shown in its entirety to people who have already got the soundbite stuck in their heads, their opinions don't noticeably change. Rush is not talking about the EESC guy.

I am, and was, strictly trying to make a point about taking things out of context and also reminding people that neither side's pundits usually have to look far to find crazies who can then be pointed to, with varying degrees of accuracy, as somehow spokesman for the whole group.
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

You need to reread what I said - 16/03/2011 10:49:45 PM 610 Views
No, I think you're still missing my point - 16/03/2011 11:09:04 PM 684 Views

Seriously, you need to pick a better example to make your point - 18/03/2011 05:00:10 PM 622 Views
No. You don't get to say, "what he said doesn't matter because of how we learned of it". - 16/03/2011 11:54:46 PM 641 Views
I told you, I'm done in this thread - 16/03/2011 11:59:08 PM 604 Views

I think Republicans should stop using "legitimate". I do not think it means what they think it means - 16/03/2011 04:11:14 PM 735 Views
there are enough carzies on the left to make things like this easy for Rush - 16/03/2011 04:20:47 PM 680 Views
So it doesn't matter that no one said it as long as he can plausibly claim they did. - 16/03/2011 06:58:17 PM 605 Views
well since it is taken out of context it is hard to say where Rush was going with it - 16/03/2011 07:19:46 PM 706 Views
Um... he stated where he was going with it. - 16/03/2011 07:30:02 PM 672 Views
At least you are not ashamed to use a double standard - 16/03/2011 08:17:39 PM 615 Views
It's the same standard, whatever you choose to believe. - 16/03/2011 09:08:01 PM 740 Views
I don't thinkit is as clear as you make it out to be - 16/03/2011 09:31:53 PM 629 Views
It is not just "possible" he's talking about islands affected by global warming; he says it outright - 16/03/2011 10:09:16 PM 795 Views
Sorry but I still fail to see how the islands he mention are a sign of what needs to be done - 16/03/2011 10:27:20 PM 671 Views
Hey, guys! - 16/03/2011 10:55:07 PM 567 Views
and how its that different than what I said? *NM* - 16/03/2011 11:14:46 PM 256 Views
Then you don't understand context and this whole discussion is pointless. - 16/03/2011 11:28:47 PM 745 Views
lets throw a little context at asnd see if it matters - 17/03/2011 12:12:03 AM 634 Views
Yes: It makes it worse. - 17/03/2011 12:45:12 AM 638 Views
