Anna being from Channah or "grace". You could change your name to Grace, I suppose, but that sounds like a name only old women (or maybe girls from Taiwan or Hong Kong) have. But if Anya were the "official form" then you can't be Anka, Anechka, Annen'ka, Annushka, Anyuta, Anyura, Nyura, Nyuta...there are so many different forms and each carries its own sort of flavor or feeling.
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
