About as many as it would've taken from a Cocker Spaniel or a Chihuahua. Joel Send a noteboard - 01/04/2011 12:25:22 AM
Getting a small bite or scratch from a house cat really doesn't count as being mauled. I have never heard of anyone being killed by a house cat. Can you say the same for dogs? The argument that most people are bitten by dogs that have owners really suffers from the fact that we keep our stray population in check by killing them. If didn't kill the strays and let them roam the streets and highways scavenging out trash cans and eating smaller pets that might change. Of course people in country will help because they will still shot everyone they see.

Since animal control will kill them as quickly as they will a Shepherd or Doberman I don't think that's the metric they're using. It's debateable whether we keep any stray population "in check" by killing them; I can't find even an estimate on stray dog populations, and the places I've looked for them claim that ONLY an estimate is available for cats--about 80 million are owned and about 70 million are strays; doesn't sound like we're keeping much in check. If they start eating each other en masse there won't be many packs forming, but National Geographic did corroborate that happening on an Indian reservation with thousands of strays, as well as the phenomenon of country people shooting strays. All I can say to the latter is that the closest thing I've ever heard to someone in the country shooting a stray on sight was a great-uncle who butchered one of my grandfathers hogs when it got loose during the Depression, and that as much as country people let their dogs roam I'd make darned sure it was a stray before I shot one.

This Is Why I Like Dogs So Much More Than I Like People (Animal Rescue Workers: I LOVE You!) - 27/03/2011 03:20:40 PM 1694 Views
Louisiana has a bit more on its plate than adorable animals. - 27/03/2011 06:14:01 PM 1007 Views
No doubt, and I respect that; it's tightening the budget by killing animals that bothers me. - 27/03/2011 06:37:17 PM 1171 Views
Feral dogs are dangerous and destructive. It's not really an option. - 27/03/2011 06:48:06 PM 865 Views
I don't know that they are, at least, not any more so than feral cats or feral teens. - 28/03/2011 04:27:44 PM 793 Views

Yes, it is easier to kill animals than have them roaming the streets. - 28/03/2011 09:36:31 PM 996 Views
