all the issues with them being "employees" vs students. I'm not saying it's a bad idea or it couldn't be done, but it'd require a huge and complicated overhaul.

I think it's a terrible idea.

nossy was saying that she wants players to have all these things, PLUS a scholarship. I was saying that if you're determined to make them employees, might as well stop muddying the waters and just do it.

I wasn't saying they should be employees, but I realize it is my fault for not being clear. I was using "employment" as a term to describe the level of expectation some college athletes exist under. They already have their school paid for, but those expectations make it very unlikely that they would be able to hold down any kind of job during the school year. As such, I think they should have their needs met. If the school wasn't making so much money off of them, I would feel differently. As I said, it should be fair to both, and I think those who watch college sports religiously are being unrealistic/hypocritical if they are bothered by the fact that athletes make money (it just shouldn't be ridiculously excessive, imo).
