What the author meant was: something unexpected will alter the course of history. It may not have been Diamond. They definitely wrote "magi". I may have read it in Foreign Policy in an article by Kennedy. I may have imagined it all, just as Mark Twain's narrator in "The Mysterious Stranger". It's all lies and Disraeli.
