If each state passes such a law, would every candidate then be required to show verification of his nationality at the federal level and then drive around with his papers and let each individual state authenticate them as well? Seems pointlessly ridiculous.
States do not control eligibility for national elections. I thought it was the Federal Election Commission that viewed his Certificate of Live Birth but maybe it is Congress as you suggest. I can't remember for sure. But, point being that Federal law already mandates sufficient proof making Arizona's law irrelevant.
