A messageboard style that doesn't require the reader to click on every single response just to read them. Maybe a phpBB or vbulletin setup (phpBB is free!). That way each comment would be shown in full after the OP (dare I say like most "normal" messageboards or forums)... instead of the way comments are shown on our current tree-style boards, where you have to click on every single one of the damn comments to read it or else you can only see the title.

The debate was apparently old when I joined wotmania, and that was, like, seven years ago. An option seems the most fair and least intrusive solution, because that forces no one to view the board in a style they find inconveniently unwieldy. Perhaps more to the point, a nesting/pages OPTION is the probably the only way you and I will ever see the latter on RAFO, because nesting always has and probably always will be overwhelmingly preferred (by "overwhelmingly" I mean only 2% of responders wanted paged threads when I brought it up at wotmania). I'm used to the current style and don't begrudge it to those who find its idiosyncracies charming and familiar (and useful for subthreads/jacks), but worry it deters new members. Unless all the oldbies plan to stay around forever that's not a recipe for sustainability.

One that I can actually support. I by no means want to give up this style but if there can be an option that allows you to choose the "traditional" forum layout, than that would be stellar.

Though I prefer pages, I'd never want the vast majority of long time members to lose a highly valued distinctive feature.

Responding to the concerns raised: Idiot proofing anything is impossible, because the cutting edge of idiocy is perversely always ahead of intelligence. That said, people ALREADY manage to reply in the wrong spot, yet we and our discussions endure. It's not that hard to figure out what happened and adjust (which is fortunate since, once again, we have to do it periodically anyway). The main difference is that it would be far easier to respond to multiple replies within a single post (dramatically reducing my post quantity if not its bandwidth :P) and there'd be a lot less threads with a dozen virtually identical replies because people don't click all 50 posts before responding to the main thread.
