A messageboard style that doesn't require the reader to click on every single response just to read them. Maybe a phpBB or vbulletin setup (phpBB is free!). That way each comment would be shown in full after the OP (dare I say like most "normal" messageboards or forums)... instead of the way comments are shown on our current tree-style boards, where you have to click on every single one of the damn comments to read it or else you can only see the title.


In a post farther down, you describe this style as awkward. Is it awkward because of having to click on every post in order to read it? I don't understand that.

To me, the post titles act as a filter. I can easily determine if it's a part of the conversation I wish to continue following. I then decide if I even need to click on it or not. I find that much more efficient, i.e., less awkward, than the bulletin style, where the next post could be a response to something 3/4 of the way up the page that I never read to begin with. It takes more time, in that style, to determine what a post is in response to.

Subject fields frequently bear little or no relation to message fields, and the only way to find out to know the contents of the latter is to click it. Yes, that's annoying as hell when you're used to being able to just scroll down through a large conversation with many members and get the gist of all of it in a couple minutes. It's also annoying when you want to respond to more than one comment and/or more than one commenter without having to make a separate post for each one.
