Rebekah's main argument for the current style seems to be that it makes it easier to ignore people. Phpbb or vbulletin would make it just as easy for her to ignore posters, without having to pay dumb amounts of money for a premium account to do so. Or, if you choose not to ignore anyone, then with phpbb you can read all of them without having to scroll down forever and ever.


YOU don't understand. Many of those tangents are only sometimes an issue. Many don't want to ignore many users but sometimes depending on

The point is, 1996 is over, and it's time to update to a board style that's not straight out of usenet.


If you don't like this site, leave. I mean, really. The general populace of posters that made the switch from wotmania would like this to stay as it is and made it quite clear. Personally other boards are far more difficult to read threads. There is so little organization to a given thread and its infinitely harder to follow tracks of conversation/discussion on whats considered the correct message boards.

I think that happens whatever the thread style.
No, not really, because with paged views you can simply click on the last page to see the newest posts - the newest rather than the oldest posts tend to get the most views (not counting the OP, of course). With the current style, it's the reverse. The oldest posts accumulate the most views, and the newest posts tend to get significantly less because people can't be bothered to scroll down that far. It's not a big deal on threads that only get a handful of responses, but on big threads with hundreds of responses, it really curbs participation, because people either A)don't bother to read down that far, and B)don't bother to respond, because they know that their own response will be similarly ignored.


But that makes no sense, either. Why would you want to not know what someone else posted before you post yours? Then you may be posting the same thing thinking you're the first and you're not. Then its embarrassing. You feel like a jack-wagon. It seems like what you want promotes self-importance rather than conversation/discussion.

Incidentally, the tree-style thing we currently have means that unless they get stickied, threads eventually rotate to the bottom and die off, no matter how popular they are. On a vbulletin or similar style board, the threads' rank is based on age of responses, not age of the OP. Thus, a dumb thread will die faster (because few people will respond and it'll get pushed to the bottom), and good threads will live longer (because they will keep getting pushed to the top with each new reply). The current system favors the chaff and the wheat equally.
